Ciambelle scottolate (boiled doughnuts)

Ciambelle scottolate are delicious traditional Priverno sweets, prepared according to a recipe handed down orally for generations.

They cannot be missing from the Christmas tables in the homes of Privernati but are so good that you can enjoy them all year round.

The recipe is really simple: form a dough with flour, sugar, oil, water, eggs, grated lemon and aniseed. Form some doughnuts, cook them in boiling water for about 5 minutes and then let them air-dry. The next day, bake them at 250°C for three-quarters of an hour, until golden brown.

As soon as you get them to the table, they will be gone.
