Palazzo delle Poste e Telegrafi (Post Office and Telegraph Building)
The Post and Telegraph Building of Sabaudia is an architectural masterpiece conceived and built in the early 1930s by the brilliant futurist architect, Angiolo Mazzoni.
In 1932, Mazzoni began laying out the lines of this extraordinary building, and in 1934 it stands proud as a tangible testament to Mazzoni's ingenuity.
Notwithstanding the passage of the years, our beloved Palazzo has lost none of its original splendour. Find the Palazzo delle Poste on Corso Vittorio Emanuele III, a street that enchants the eyes and takes you back in time. It is a building constructed with only one floor, but it rises upward thanks to a staircase. The blue tiles that cover its facade will enchant you. They are a tribute to the colour of the Savoia family, a regal touch in this architectural gem. The large windows, framed by a cord of Siena red marble, diffuse a magical light inside illuminating the great hall.
The magnificent side staircase once led to the custodian's house. Walking on these steps, you can almost hear the echo of past generations.
Architect Mazzoni had an audacious dream: to create a building that embodied the speed and innovation of the future. Today we can say with certainty that his goal has been achieved.
But the Post and Telegraph Building is not just an architectural marvel; it is a place of knowledge and culture. Here, you can immerse yourself in the history of Sabaudia thanks to the Center for Documentation, to the Historical Archive as well as to the Municipal Library. These cultural treasures are kept among architectural lines, enhanced by the genius of the illumination of Vittorio Storaro.
Don't miss it during your visit to Sabaudia.
